Summer cake

One of the perks of having children is that you make new acquaintances through your kids’ activities – acquaintances that even might develop into friendships. Today, we had a couple of befriended families over for coffee and a swim. The swim got a bit short, as we realized that a snake was joining us in the sea. The coffee accompanied by summer cake was quite enjoyable, though.

The summer cake consisted of loads of strawberries hidden between store-bought sponge cake and soy-based vanilla custard. For decoration, I used flowering raspberry blossom, beebalm, heal-all, daisies and lemon balm.

That is one gorgeous cake! When we lived in Maryland, we also had to cut swimming short once because of a snake… that was the first time I’d ever seen one take a dip in the ocean.
